The Association of Geohazard Professionals (AGHP) was created to support the development of standards, specifications, and best practices concerning the design and implementation of geohazard-related technologies and products; and to support and provide education to the Geohazard Community and those it serves. Manufacturers, engineers, agency personnel, contractors and all others interacting with geohazards design, installation and implementation are invited to join the association and contribute to the achievement of our goals.

Field Monitoring in Geomechanics deals with assessing the performance of engineering structures using instrumentation and other related information. The applications include dams and embankments, structures and foundations, transport infrastructure including tunnels and other underground openings,  open cut and underground mines, natural slopes, land reclamation, repositories for industrial or nuclear waste and offshore structures.

The principal aims of TC220 are:

– To organise specialty conferences, symposiums, workshops and short courses dedicated to the subject of field monitoring in geomechanics. To encourage the involvement of a wide range of geo-professionals in these events.

– To encourage the preparation of keynote lectures, state-of-the-art lectures including on new technologies, general reports for conferences organised by the International Society, regional conferences and conferences organized by Member Societies.

– To promote the inclusion of structural and geotechnical monitoring in universities and at conferences and meetings of other international bodies, thereby encouraging a common culture of learning through field monitoring.

TC220 will provide fora for all of those involved in the use of field instrumentation, such as manufacturers, installers, design consultants and owner/operators, to improve collective knowledge, support decision making and foster a common culture. This will be done mainly through FMGM Symposia and the website, but also by encouraging universities to include monitoring in curricula and by increasing field monitoring content at conferences and meetings of other international bodies.

FMGM is an international symposium held every four years since 1977.  TC220 will ensure that this tradition continues and will encourage ISSMGE members to participate in future FMGM Symposia.

The Italian Association of Applied and Environmental Geology

• promotes and organises congresses, conferences and other scientific meetings, both of a national and international character;
• directly constitutes, or participates in, study commissions on general and local problems;
• provides, upon request, advice to Ministries, Bodies, Committees and Commissions, including those of an interdisciplinary nature;

GEAM stands for “GEorisorse e AMbiente” (georesources and environment): it is a non-profit cultural association founded at Politecnico di Torino in 1964 as “Associazione Mineraria Subalpina” and ever since hosted inside the Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) of the Politecnico. GEAM initiatives target the geoenvironmental and mining engineering field, with particular focus to the interaction and compatibility between fluid, solid and land resources and man-driven activities such as exploitation, excavation and construction.
The Association, which counts about 250 associates, is active on the whole italian territory and entertains relationships and partnerships with affine entities in Italy and abroad.

The National Council of Geologists is the institutional representation body on the national level of the interests of the professional category of geologists.

The Council, by specific legislative provision, is a public law body supervised by the Ministry of Justice.

The institutional tasks of the CNG include, among others: the role of second degree judiciary in appeals and complaints by members against the decisions of the Councils of the Order; the expression of opinions, at the request of the Ministry of Justice, on proposals for laws and regulations concerning the profession; the function of government referent in professional matters.

The National Council of Geologists plays a role of primary importance in promoting, developing and enhancing the role of the geologist in order to increase its impact in the society in which it operates and is committed to pursuing growth objectives of the profession at the service of the community and an ever greater recognition , on the part of political and social forces, of the driving role of the geologist in the processes of evolution and change.

The Italian Galleries Society was founded in 1974 and it is an association with open cultural purposes that takes care of the promotion, coordination and dissemination of studies and research in the field of tunnels and large underground works. Its activity is aimed at organizing conferences, congresses, courses, technical visits on the main underground works sites in Italy and abroad, as well as the printing of technical-scientific publications and the coordination of the participation of members in international conferences.

SIG is one of the members of the International Tunneling Association (ITA) and actively participates in the ITA-AITES (WG) working groups to share skills and technical-scientific know-how.

SIG currently has around 800 members, representing public authority and research organizations, general contractors, industrial construction companies, as well as engineering firms, consultants and universities.

The group of SIG Young Members, founded in 2016, currently consists of 130 members and contributes to building a professional network in which young professionals can develop knowledge and raise awareness in the tunneling industry.

The SIG brings together all the different spheres of Tunneling in Italy, effectively constituting a point of reference in terms of promoting dialogue, sharing knowledge and professional training for the entire sector.

With ITA,  SIG organized the World Tunnel Congress in Naples in 2019″Tunnels and Underground Cities: Engineering and Innovation meet Archeology, Architecture and Art” which saw the participation of 2500 technicians from over 60 countries with a strong under 35 component. The memories transmitted to the proceedings of the congress, of which over 180 full presentations and 500 e-poster presentations, made it possible to promote knowledge and dialogue between international excellences.

SIG is also Sponsor of the II level Masters in Tunneling and Underground Construction, at the Politecnico in Torino and the Politecnico  in Milano, and in Geotechnics applied to infrastructures, at the Sapienza University of Rome and the Federico II University of Naples.

SIG is the Editor of the magazine “Gallerie e Grandi Oprere Sotterranee” which all members receive free of charge every four months and which has reached the 137th edition.

The Magazine reports technical-scientific articles regarding research activities, technological developments and case studies relating to underground works and underground infrastructures, as well as a series of update columns (in-depth articles, news on works / tenders, news from IT , reports of the Technical Visits of the Italian Gallery Society, etc.).

The National Council of Italian Engineers (CNI) is the institutional national body representing the professional category of the Italian engineers.

CNI is a non-economic public institution, established in 1944 and placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Justice that monitors the professions and controls the adoption of the provided regulations.

The institutional commitment of CNI includes, among others, following tasks:

• to express opinions concerning decisions made by the Disciplinary Committees of each local Register of Engineers relevant to appeals and complaints;
• to issue legal opinions, on behalf of the Ministry of Justice, concerning legislative or regulation proposals about the profession of engineer;
• to act as advisory body towards the Governmental, Institutional and Supervisory Authorities, which deal with the profession of engineer. CNI plays a significant role in: promoting, developing and safeguarding the figure of the Engineer in the society;
• providing the Continuing Professional Development and ensuring the quality of the professional performances. Activities and objectives of CNI give high importance to the following topics: safety and security of people and goods, environment protection, safeguarding of the natural resources, sustainable development, scientific and technological progress, and enhancement of the intellectual work.
