CASTEL OF POPPI, “CASTELLO DEI CONTI GUIDI”

Dominating the skyline is the majestic Castello dei Conti Guidi, a medieval fortress dating back to the 12th century, which once served as the residence of the noble Guidi family. This well-preserved castle, believed to have influenced the design of Florence’s Palazzo Vecchio, offers visitors a glimpse into the region’s storied past. The town’s strategic location made it a significant site during historical events, such as the Battle of Campaldino in 1289, where Guelph and Ghibelline forces clashed on the surrounding plains.
